Ring Sizing Guide

With engagement season upon us, let's chat about ring sizing. How do you know if a ring fits you properly? Before making a purchase, several factors should be considered, so let's dig into some guides and tips for ring sizing.

Here are a few considerations to remember when sizing your finger:

- You want the ring to fit your finger comfortably; snug enough so it won't fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with relative ease

- It's also good to keep in mind that the finger size fluctuates slightly based on diet, temperature, and activity. The way your ring fits may change somewhat over the course of a single day.

- Measure your ring size toward the end of the day when your finger is at its largest.

- Ring sizing for your dominant hand will usually be about a half to a whole size bigger than your non-dominant hand.

- You may find that a fluctuation of a half size or less will still fit comfortably most of the time.

- The wider the ring, the tighter it will fit on your finger. This is something to keep in mind when you're planning on stacking multiple rings on one finger.

- The interior of a Comfort Fit ring puts less metal in contact with your finger, so they tend to fit a little looser. A Comfort Fit ring is more rounded on the inside versus a standard fit ring, and it glides easier over your knuckle.

You may find that you've followed all of these tips, but you still need to have your ring re-sized. It's not a big deal to do this; however, it does affect the stone tightness. When a ring is sized, either larger or smaller, all accent stones have to be re-tightened, adding some additional risk for stone loss. It's best to only size a ring once or twice for this reason if you have accent stones. It's also best to wear a ring through a season or two of temperature changes to really feel the difference needed if it's not drastic; that way, you can avoid oversizing and re-sizing when it's not needed. For a quick or short term fix, I love these ring size adjusters.
